1. Who we are
Demerzel Studio LLC publishes Booklog, an app to track reading, goals, streaks, and quotes, with a web version at getbooklog.com. This policy covers the app, the web version, and the public pages on getbooklog.com. The Demerzel Studio website has its own policy.
2. What we collect
- Without an account: your data stays on your device.
- With an Apple or Google account: an account identifier and, if you allow it, name and email. We store books, pages read, goals, streak, reading routine, quotes, and notes, to sync them across devices.
- Social: accepted friends, challenges, clubs, and comments you post.
- Public pages: each part of your profile has the visibility you choose (everyone, friends, or only you). What is set to everyone appears at getbooklog.com/@your-username, along with notes and quotes you publish and covers you upload. Club invites show the club name and how many readers it has.
3. Where data lives
Synced data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure, separated per user. We do not sell your data and do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. Third-party services
- Apple and Google: sign-in and payments, each under its own privacy policy. We never see card details.
- RevenueCat: manages the Pro subscription, bought in a store or on the website, using an anonymous identifier and purchase data from the store or Stripe.
- Stripe: bills the subscription bought on the website; it receives your card details and email, under its own privacy policy. We never see your card number.
- Google Books, Open Library, and Hardcover: search text (title, author, or ISBN) goes through our server to fetch book data and covers; your name is not sent.
- Cloudflare Workers AI: transcribes dictated quotes and, when you ask, cleans up text read from a photo. It also helps moderate club comments.
- Anthropic: in Pro, writes the summary of your own notes and the monthly recap from your statistics.
- Pulso: our own usage analytics tool, run by Demerzel Studio on servers we rent from Railway. It records app usage events (for example, screens opened and features used) with platform, app version, language, and an estimated country, tied to a random install identifier and, if you sign in, to an internal account identifier. We also use Pulso to turn features on and off and to test versions of the app; it records which version of a test you received, tied to the install identifier. It does not receive your name, email, or the content of your quotes and notes, and it does not use advertising identifiers. Your IP address is never stored: it is used to estimate your country and, to limit abuse, a code derived from it is kept for up to 24 hours. You can turn it off in Settings.
- Sentry: crash reports, without the content of your quotes and notes.
Photos and audio are not kept after the text is extracted, and nothing you write is used to train models.
Usage statistics and crash reports are kept for each service's standard retention period. In Pulso, your install record (country, app version, and account identifier, if any) is kept until you delete your account.
5. Booklog on the web
The web version is part of Booklog Pro. You sign in by scanning a QR code with the app, already signed in to your account; there is no password. To keep you signed in we set a single session cookie, strictly necessary and not readable by scripts, which lasts up to 180 days or until you sign out. We use no advertising or tracking cookies. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your browser's IP address.
6. Notifications
"Reading time" alerts and the goal reminder are scheduled on your device. Social alerts (challenge, nudge, club) arrive through Apple or Google push. You control them in the app and in system settings.
7. Camera, photos, and microphone
The camera reads book barcodes and photographs passages; the microphone is used only to dictate a quote. Nothing is captured until you tap the matching button.
8. Your rights
You can export your data at any time (CSV, Markdown, Notion, Readwise) and delete your account in Settings; deletion removes your data from our servers. For other requests, contact us below.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
